Worming your Dog Pregnant bitches and bitches with young puppies should be wormed frequently. We recommend that bitches should be wormed before mating, after the first 45 days of pregnancy and after giving birth. They should then be wormed with their pups at 2, 5 and 8 weeks and after weaning.

From the beginning of the heat period she will be attractive to male dogs, but will usually not be receptive, or allow mating, until about 7-10 days later. The discharge will usually become less bloodstained at this time. Some females experience heavy vaginal bleeding during oestrus.

How long should you wait to breed a dog after a litter?
Bitches should not be bred until at least their second heat to allow them to mature. Their first whelping should be before 4-5 years of age or they are at higher risk of having whelping problems. Average length of the heat cycle is 21 days: 7 coming in, seven in (the actual breeding period), and 7 going out.
