Alaskan Malamute's have almost no pigmentation in their skin. So when you shave him, you expose his sensitive skin to the sun. Once the skin is exposed your Alaskan Malamute is vulnerable to a series of skin diseases including skin cancer. This is not a joke and it should be taken very seriously.


Is it OK to shave an Alaskan Malamute?

With Alaskan Malamutes and Huskies, the coat is thick in the winter to keep the dog warm. But it also acts to cool the dog in the summer. Shaving these breeds is not advised, because without the coat they cannot regulate their temperature and are at greater risk of heatstroke. The skin is also subject to sunburn.

Does Alaskan Malamute fur grow back?
