Where did Chifles originate?
Chifles (pronounced CHIEF-les) was established in Tampa, Florida in 1963. The founding family was inspired by vendors who sold plantain chips on the streets of Havana, Cuba. At the time, not many people were looking for gluten-free, vegan snacks but it was no secret that plantain chips were delicious.
Who owns Chifles?
Chifles CEO and president Peggy Argudo and plant manager Herb White, who has been with the company for 36 of its 50 years, at the Plantain Products Co. office in Tampa. The story of Tampa's Chifles Plantain Chips began as a romance that would have made the perfect screenplay for an old black and white movie.

Called Chifles, (pronounced chief-les, according to the small print on the bag) plantain chips and a companion product, cassava or yucca chips, are the brainchildren of the Argudo family in Tampa. Segundo and Margaret Argudo pioneered their alternative chip business 23 years ago.
