People can get roundworms from contact with feces or contaminated soil. Children and pregnant women are especially at risk. Most dogs get roundworms at sometime in their lives. It can even be passed to puppies before they are born or in the mother's milk.
Why do roundworms come out in poop?
Infection often happens from touching poop or soil that's infected with eggs and not washing hands (fecal-oral route). Pinworm infections result from touching eggs laid near the opening of the buttocks (anus). You can accidentally ingest roundworm eggs by preparing food or touching soil that's contaminated.
How long does it take for roundworms to come out?
After a period, which may vary from weeks to months, the eggs develop into infective larvae. Under ideal conditions, this takes approximately four weeks. These infective larvae are able to survive in the environment for long periods of time and are particularly resistant to changes in temperature and humidity.
Where do roundworms come from?
Roundworm infections usually happen when soil, sand, or plants that have been contaminated with infected animal feces are accidentally put in the mouth and ingested. Hookworm infections happen when larvae penetrate the skin. This usually happens when people sit or walk on contaminated soil or sand with bare feet.
Will roundworms go away?
Many people recover from ascariasis with minimal treatment. Symptoms may go away even before all the worms are gone. However, ascariasis can cause complications when there are large infestations. If you think you've been infected with roundworms, be sure to see your doctor.
