According to veterinarian Justine Lee, a dose of about two nuts per pound of body weight can result in poisoning that can lead to a temporary inability to walk.

How long does it take for macadamia nuts to affect dogs?

Within 12 hours of ingestion, dogs with macadamia nut toxicosis typically develop weakness, depression, vomiting, ataxia, tremors, and/or hyperthermia. Tremors may be secondary to muscle weakness. Macadamia nuts may be identified in vomitus or feces.
