Can dogs get sick from eating cooked chicken?

YES! Dogs can get Salmonella infection from chickens and other animals carrying the bacteria, by exposure to contaminated excretions (mostly poop!) or by eating contaminated meat.

Why is chicken not good for dogs?

If you're having chicken for dinner, your dog can share some as long as you keep theirs plain. Refrain from feeding your dog chicken on the bone as these bones can splinter causing GI blockages or punctures. If your dog does eat a bone contact your vet ASAP so they can get it removed safely.

Try to break up the normal meal into a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio. If you normally give your dog 1 cup (224 g) of dog food for dinner, then only give your dog 2/3 cup (149.3 g) of dog food and 1/3 cup (41.7 g) of chicken, or 3/4 cup (168 g) of dog food and 1/4 cup (31.25 g) of chicken.

What happens if a dog eats chicken?
