Why are Whippets so fast?

The Double Suspension Gait: How Can Whippets Run Fast? Whippets have what's called a “double suspension gait” when they run. This is a running style whereby the Whippet's hind legs launch them into the air and the front legs then drive them forward.

Are there different types of Whippets?

This was a major sport by the end of the 19th century, and two types of Whippets became known – a smooth-coated Whippet and a rough-coated Whippet, known as the “rabbit dog”. By then, the Whippet also started to be bred as a companion animal and the breed expanded outside of England, reaching all parts of the world.

Are Whippets as fast as Greyhounds?

Whippets and Salukis,, sometimes known as the Arabian Greyhound are also very fast with Whippets reaching speeds of 35 miles per hour. Greyhounds may be the fastest breed but Whippets are the fastest accelerating dog in the world.
