Some greyhounds with strong chase motivation can be very safe with small dogs (i.e. low levels of predatory behaviour towards small dogs), while some quiet greyhounds, who do not chase the lure well, can show high levels of predatory behaviour towards small dogs.
Can greyhounds get along with small dogs?
Greyhounds are by nature not an aggressive breed. They are generally accepting of other medium to large sized dogs. Introducing smaller dogs can sometimes take a little time but once the greyhound understands it is a dog they will be able to socialise safely.
Can a greyhound play with other dogs?
Like all dogs, some greyhounds can happily co-exist with other animals, while others can never be trusted, whilst others will show behaviour in between. Some greyhounds will be quite predatory towards other animals. Dogs are carnivores, and their ancestors had to hunt, chase and kill other animals in order to survive.
How do you introduce a puppy to a greyhound?
Dogs - Introduce your Greyhound to your other dog(s) on neutral territory. With leashes on, have them meet on the sidewalk or down the block from your home. Let them greet each other and then take them for a walk together.
Are greyhounds aggressive to other dogs?
Some dogs of any breed may show aggression when approached whilst asleep or even whilst awake on their bed. However it is relatively common in greyhounds. This condition could be due to an underlying behaviour disorder and therefore it is recommended to seek advice from a veterinary behaviour consultant.
