Do Malamutes run away?
Malamutes are less likely to run away, but still have that drive to run and are highly athletic. Both dogs will need plenty of exercise throughout the day, but their workout routines will vary slightly: Huskies were built for speed so they will want to run around, go on brisk jogs and chase other dogs around.
Can Huskies be trusted off leash?
Because of this, it's generally not recommended for Husky owners to allow their dogs to go off leash in an insecure environment. However, if you still wish to train for off-leash obedience, there are methods that can prove to better your pup's ability to listen when not hindered by the leash.
How long should you walk a Malamute?
Malamutes need a minimum of two hours of heavy exercise every day. This can be spent running and walking so they can let off steam. As well as this they'll also need extra playtime, free time in the garden and training to help keep their brains active too.
How do I stop my Malamute from pulling on the leash?
Start off normally with the dog on your left side or side you want to walk her on. Stop the moment the leash becomes taut and the dog is pulling—do not move, as in at all. Merely stand still as a statue. If and when the dog comes back to you, go crazy with praise and offer a treat.
