In the UK there is no assistance dog register so it is not possible to register a dog as an assistance dog, regardless of where it has been trained. Only dogs that have been trained by ADUK members are issued an ADUK Identification Booklet.
What counts as an assistance dog UK?
Assistance dogs are trained to support disabled people and people with medical conditions in a variety of ways. From guide dogs to medical alert dogs, from autism dogs to hearing dogs, assistance dogs change, and often save, the lives of their owners and their families.
Can I register my dog as an assistance dog?
To qualify your Therapy Dog as your ESA, you will need an ESA letter from a therapist. If your current therapist understands ESA laws and can help you write an ESA letter, this is your best route. If you do not have access to an ESA Doctor or ESA therapist, we recommend seeking support for a legitimate ESA resource.
Can I register my dog as an emotional support animal UK?
Any animal can be registered as an Emotional Support Animal, but in the United Kingdom, you will NOT be allowed to take such an animal into businesses due to the health laws.
Do I need to prove my dog is an assistance dog?
You will need a Veterinary Animal Health Certificate to GB issued by your vet which must be accompanied by supporting documentation for the rabies vaccination, usually in the form of a certificate or vaccination booklet (The microchip number must be present).
