Can cats have worms even after being dewormed?

【Expert answer】
Any Q

As a first-time foster parent (at least, officially) for kittens, I was unaware of the fact that a dewormed cat can still have worms, even after being given a dewormer. This, however, does not mean that standard dewormers don't kill worms — they just don't kill ALL worms. 22 окт. 2018 г.

Why does my cat still have worms after treatment?

Your cat might still have worms after deworming as dewormers take 2-4 days to take effect, or sometimes a second dose is also needed. The worms will usually be gone in 2 to 3 weeks after you give your cat a dewormer. It may need a second deworming a few weeks later to get rid of all the worms. What is this?

Can you get worms again after being dewormed?

Unfortunately, even when your pup has been fully dewormed, the risk of becoming infected again will continue. The best way to protect your dog from intestinal worms is to have them on a monthly heartworm prevention product that also treats and controls common intestinal worms.

How long after deworming a cat are the worms gone?

What is this? In most cases, cats will be worm-free three days after you have administered their dewormer medication if they are not reinfected after this point. However, this does depend on the severity of the infection.

Can cats get dewormed twice?

It is recommended to repeat treatment at the age of 4 and 6 months. Adult cats are less affected by worms than kittens, but they still need to be dewormed. It is recommended to deworm your adult cat every 2 to 6 months with an agent that eliminates both roundworm and tapeworm.
