What causes you to cough up worms?
Swallowed eggs first hatch in the intestine. The larvae then move through the bloodstream to your lungs. After maturing, the roundworms leave your lungs and travel to your throat. You'll either cough up or swallow the roundworms in your throat.
Can worms come up your throat?
Roundworms (Ascariasis) Roundworms are common in warm places where there's poor sanitation. When a person swallows roundworm eggs, the worms hatch in the intestines. The young worms then go to the lungs. After a week or two, the worms go to the throat and often get swallowed again.
Why does my mucus look like worms?

Can you get worms in your lungs?
It is caused by lung flukes of the genus Paragonimus. Paragonimus westermani is responsible for most cases. The adult worms are found in pulmonary cysts, usually in pairs. Adult worms produce eggs which are secreted in sputum or faeces.
