Basenjis consider themselves family. They cannot be left in a yard with food and water. They require a great deal of time and attention. They do not do well in homes with other small pets, as their instinct to chase may take over.


How much attention do Basenjis need?

Basenjis are active dogs that need and enjoy a good romp or run every day. They like doing agility and running lure courses. Basenjis are not used for hunting much anymore, but make very nice family dogs and live to about 13 years of age or so.

Are Basenjis clingy?

Basenjis are extremely compassionate and loyal to their chosen pack but are not overly clingy and are happy to be left alone. Sometimes, they can be aloof with strangers or new dogs but will warm up quickly.
