Adult dogs can get worms from other infected animals, scavenging dead animals which might carry worms or infected parasites such as fleas, or from eating the larvae or eggs of worms outside, for instance by eating grass. How do I get rid of worms in my dog?

Give them regular worm treatments - ask your vet for the best treatment and method to deworm your pet. Treat pets for roundworms from a young age and, when they're adults, also treat them for tapeworms. Different worms may need different treatments - ask your vet which treatment is safe and suitable for your pet.

What are the first signs of worms in dogs?

Coughing, diarrhea, vomiting and lethargy are the general signs the dog has worms. Other symptoms depend on the type of worm. For example, if your dog has a tapeworm, clear identifiers can be rapid weight loss or what appears to be grains of rice in their stool.

Can dogs get worms from human food?

The worms commonly found in dogs, listed above, are not acquired from people food, with the possible exception of tapeworms in contaminated meat.
