Does mirtazapine make dogs sleepy?

Mirtazapine generally is well tolerated in dogs and cats, although trials are lacking. Common side- effects include drowsiness, sedation, low blood pressure, and increased heart rate.

How quickly does mirtazapine work?

You may see an improvement in your symptoms after a week although it usually takes between 4 and 6 weeks before you feel the full benefits. That's because it takes around a week for mirtazapine levels to build up in your body, and then a few weeks longer for your body to adapt and get used to it.

How much mirtazapine can a dog take?

For use in dogs as an appetite stimulant, the most common dosing is 0.6 milligram/kilogram orally every 24 hours, not to exceed 30 milligrams/day. A common dosage reference is: 3.75 milligrams per dog PO every 24 hours for dogs < 11 pounds body weight(¼ of a 15 milligram pill total dose once daily)
