How many worms are in one cocoon?

Each cocoon can have 1-5 worms. If conditions are not right for hatching, such as dryness, my cocoons can be dormant for years and hatch when conditions are right.

How many worms are in a worm egg?

One to five worms emerge from each egg. In 60-90 days, the young worms are mature. Try to find mature worms, young worms and worm eggs in your worm bin.

What do worm farm eggs look like?

Those cocoons are so small, only 3-4 mm long, that they are often hard to see amidst the rest of your worm compost. Luckily, when they are first dropped, they are distinctly yellow. Not bright, but obvious against the dark rich soil of the worm bin. In time, they darken to a rich maroon color and blend right in.

How long do worm cocoons take to hatch?

Each cocoon may have as many as 20 eggs in it but only some of those eggs actually survive and hatch into “wrigglers”. The eggs incubate for about 3 weeks before hatching. On average, 2-4 worms usually hatch out of each cocoon. It takes 6 weeks for worms to grow up and become of age to make babies.
