It is not uncommon for pups to lose weight in the first 24hours, but then they should gain weight thereafter. Pups weight should increase by 10% per day. For example a pup weighing 200g should gain 20g and weigh 220g by day 2, then gain 22g and weigh 242g the following day etc.

How much weight should newborn puppies gain each day?

A puppy should begin gaining weight from the day he is born. He should gain between 10-15% of his birth weight each day. But a simple rule of thumb is to expect your pup to gain about 5 ounces per week for small breeds and 2.5 pounds a week for large breeds.

How much should puppies gain the first week of life?

Apart from breed type alone, all puppies are separate individuals, too. During the first week of a puppy's life, her weight should double itself, ideally. If a puppy first entered the world weighing in at 10 ounces, then she probably should tip the scale at 20 ounces after the initial seven or eight days or so.
