Most dogs need a minimum of 18% to 29% protein in their diet. However, more is typically not frowned upon. Puppies need more protein, as they are growing. Too much protein can cause kidney problems, though.

Is 30% protein too much in a dog food?

Dogs are quite able to tolerate diets with protein levels higher than 30 percent on a dry weight basis.

Can a dog overdose on protein?

Proteins are the building blocks of the body and an absolute necessity for daily function. However, when a dog consumes too much protein in a meal it cannot all be utilized at one time, nor can it be stored for later. The body will then excrete the excess protein through the kidneys and out of the body via urine.
