【Expert answer】
Any Q

You should brush your dog every couple of days no matter the length of his coat. Sometimes your brushing can have a specific purpose, such as removing hair mats or helping your dog shed his seasonal coat, but most often you'll be doing general-purpose brushing or combing.

When should you start brushing your puppy's hair?

Once the puppy has been introduced to its new home and has established relations with the new owner they can think about getting the puppy groomed. We recommend starting at 12-weeks of age. The very first grooming appointment is an introduction to the puppy and the owner to the world of grooming.

Should you brush a puppy's fur?

A puppy should be brushed daily, but each session must be a short and pleasant experience for her. Choose the location depending on how much hair you expect your dog to shed during the brushing -- unless you really do not mind the clean-up.

Can you over brush a puppy?

Even dogs who require frequent at-home groomings for coat maintenance still usually only need to be brushed a few times each week. You cannot overbrush your dog, but you should be mindful of the types of grooming tools you're using and watch out for signs of skin irritation such as redness or dryness.

How long should I brush my puppy?

You should brush only for as long as it takes to remove any tangles, loose hair or dirt on your dog's body. For short-haired dogs, this may only take a couple of minutes. A long-haired dog might take 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the thickness and condition of his coat.
