In general, we don't recommend it for dogs. While dogs have been fed cornmeal (as a filler in dog food) for decades, that doesn't make it healthy. Corn is not part of the canine diet, many dogs have trouble digesting it, and most cornmeal these days is made from nutritionally poor, mass-produced corn.
Does cornmeal make dogs sick?
Yes, dogs can eat corn and it is considered safe to eat as long as it is cooked and served plain. Cornmeal and cornflour are also safe for dogs to eat, and given it's inexpensive and versatile, some dog food brands use it in their recipes.
Which is better for dogs corn or rice?
While some dogs have rice allergies, these are less common than corn allergies. Since dogs digest rice easily, they absorb needed nutrients better than corn. Combined with reduced allergen rates, this makes rice a better choice.
Can I feed my dog corn flour?
Cornflour. Often used as a thickener in many types of dog foods, cornflour is also completely safe in your pet's meals, though, again, it doesn't add much in nutritional value. It is particularly useful if you like to make your own treats and if your dog is gluten-free.
