How often should I deworm my senior dog?

At least every three months. Depending on your pet's lifestyle, more regular worming may need to be undertaken and it is recommended this be discussed with your vet if you are concerned.

Can an older dog get worms?

Adult dogs can get worms from other infected animals, scavenging dead animals which might carry worms or infected parasites such as fleas, or from eating the larvae or eggs of worms outside, for instance by eating grass.

Do you have to deworm an adult dog?

Every time you give a deworming pill you get rid of any adult worms that are living in the intestines. If there is a large number, you may see them pass in the stool (they look like a pile of spaghetti). Currently, we recommend monthly deworming for all dogs in the summer months.

What happens if I dont worm my dog?

If left untreated, worms can damage your dog's internal organs and lead to loss of consciousness and death. If you suspect that your dog has worms, take it to your nearest veterinary office. Most intestinal worms are easy to treat and your veterinarian will prescribe a medication based on the diagnosis.
