PROVIDE A LOW BULK, HIGHLY DIGESTIBLE RATION The traditional meat-based diets with an intake of 1000 g daily containing an average of 50-70% fresh red meat by weight or 500-700 g for an average 30 kg (66 lb) greyhound, combined with 30-50% of a low protein, low fat dry food or kibble (300 g daily) are still popular.
What are greyhounds fed?
Greyhounds should eat between 250-300 grams of meat per day, depending upon the size of the dog. This meat should be supplemented with vegetables (see list of good and bad vegetables), fish oil and some dry food. Modern dog racing is a competitive sport for greyhounds, or similar dog breeds, in which the dog chases a mechanically operated lure around or along a sand or grass track of between 300 and 650 metres in length. Dog racing aims to demonstrate and preserve the abilities for which greyhounds were originally bred.
Do they use real rabbits in greyhound racing?
Live baiting involves small animals such as a rabbits, possums or piglets being used as a lure or bait to train greyhounds to race around a track. 'Bait' animals are attached to the mechanical lure and are hurled at speed around the track while greyhounds are released to pursue, catch and maul them.
