Intestinal worms, also known as parasitic worms, are one of the main types of intestinal parasites in humans. They're most commonly found in subtropical and tropical regions, but some types are found in the United States. Most intestinal worm infections only cause mild illness and can be treated with medication.

The worms go to the intestine, grow up, mate, and lay eggs. After hatching, young worms go through the blood to the muscles.

Is intestinal worms serious?

At first, symptoms of intestinal worms may be mild or non-existent, but infections can lead to diarrhoea, abdominal pain, weakness, anaemia and nutritional problems. The disease can affect cognitive and physical development, and in severe cases can be fatal.
