Why are worms coming out of my kitten?

【Expert answer】
Any Q

How Do Cats Get Worms? Cats most commonly contract worms after coming into contact with parasite eggs or infected feces. A cat may walk through an area with eggs or infected feces, and since cats are often such fastidious groomers, they will then ingest the eggs or fecal particles as they clean their fur and feet.

Is it normal for worms to come out of a kitten?

The worm will only come to maturity inside the intestine. Pieces of the worm then break off and are expelled through the feces. You may be able to spot them in your cat's feces or on the fur near the anus, but in some cases they are passed sporadically, meaning they may not always be found during a fecal examination.

What do I do if my kittens have worms?

Worms in cats are often treated with prescription medication that is available through your veterinarian and administered according to the type of worms diagnosed. However, there are also several over the counter medications and dewormers available which are often recommended by veterinarians.

Are worms in kittens serious?

Intestinal worms can be a serious problem in young kittens. Hookworms can cause anemia and roundworms can lead to poor growth and development. Tapeworms can also accumulate in high numbers, leading to intestinal obstruction. In adult cats, however, intestinal parasites are only occasionally life-threatening.

What do I do if my cat throws up worms?

Seek Help from Your Vet and Your Physician for Roundworms in Cats. If you notice spaghetti-like strands in your cat's vomit, be sure to call your vet immediately. If you also have children, it is a good idea to have their pediatrician check them for signs of roundworms as well.
