A Collie's coat is two layer, made up of a soft, downy under-coat and a longer, courser outer-coat. It is this under-coat that is main culprit in seasonal shedding.


How much do rough coat collies shed?

Rough Collies typically shed once each year. The process is usually completed within 1-2 months. Unlike shorter coated dogs (including Smooth Collies), a Rough Collie often has no shedding for much of the year.

How do I stop my Collie from shedding?

You can't stop a Border collie from shedding. But you can take control of it with a simple routine. Brush your collie out three times a week with a pin brush or slicker brush. Personally I recommend a good slicker brush as it's more effective in removing loose hair and surface level mats.
