Drugs. Benzimidazoles (albendazole or mebendazole), pyrantel pamoate, and levamisole are all used to treat soil transmitted helminths, including ascariasis and trichuriasis. Treatment is challenging because of the way the worms are situated in the large intestine -- very little surface area is exposed to the drugs.
