Can a puppy get parvo from grass?
Parvo can be found in almost any environment. It is transmitted when a susceptible dog comes in contact with the virus. This includes contact with the feces of an infected dog, or objects that contain the virus (shoes, clothes, bedding, bowls, grass, carpets, floors, etc).
How long does parvo last in the grass?
Parvo can stay in the yard for up to a year without living in a host so I do not recommend bringing in any new puppies that aren't fully vaccinated (boosters every 3 weeks until they are ~15-16 weeks old) into your yard.
Can parvo be in the yard?
Parvo can survive on any surface and even through cold weather for months at a time… meaning it can survive outdoors, and you will need to treat your yard for parvo. You should disinfect your home then do the same to get rid of parvo in your yard once your dog has recovered.
How does parvo get in your yard?
Parvovirus can be transmitted or carried by anything and anyone that comes into contact with an infected dog's fecal matter or vomit. That means that if a dog owner's shoe makes contact with contaminated material outside the home, the virus can easily be tracked into that person's house and yard.
