Does dried fruit really expire?
If kept properly stored, dried fruits can last for several months after the expiration date. In fact, even if they are just stored in the pantry, they can last from six months to a year after the expiration date as long as the container is airtight and properly sealed after each use.
How long can you keep dried fruit for?
Most dried fruits can be stored for 1 year at 60ºF, 6 months at 80ºF. Vegetables have about half the shelf-life of fruits. Foods that are packaged seemingly "bone dry" can spoil if moisture is reabsorbed during storage.
Can bacteria grow on dried fruit?
Even though dried fruits are a very low moisture food, they did appear to harbor bacteria and other microorganisms. Coliforms were found in several of the dried fruits tested and even E. coli in organic raisin samples. Aspergillus type molds were cultured from mango, and raisin samples.
