Potential Risks of Dried Fruit When you dry fruit, you are concentrating all of its nutrients into a smaller package. That means you eat less dried fruit by weight to reach the same caloric threshold of fresh fruit. While dried fruit is high in fiber, its high sugar content can actually lead to weight gain.

Can raisins cause cancer?

There is an inverse association between dried fruit intake and risk of cancer. Increasing the intake of dried fruits such as raisins, figs, prunes (dried plums) and dates to 3-5 or more servings per week may be beneficial for reducing the risk of cancers like pancreatic, prostate, stomach, bladder and colon cancers.

Do dried foods cause cancer?

“data presented in this review indicate that increasing dried fruit consumption to 3-5 servings per week may have health beneficial effects related to risk of certain cancers, including cancers of the pancreas, prostate, stomach, bladder, and colon.” No such effect, however, was found for lung or breast cancers.

Is dried fruit toxic?
