Is a deer hit by a car good to eat?

【Expert answer】
Any Q

Normally, if a deer is hit by a car, several of the internal organs burst and the meat is quickly tainted. Rarely, a deer is hit in the head and the neck is broken. In those unusual circumstances, the meat is still edible and good, but like in the field, the deer must be quickly gutted, cooled, and hung up. 17 июн. 2018 г.

Is roadkill good to eat?

If people must eat animal carcasses, roadkill is a superior option to the neatly shrink-wrapped plastic packages of meat in the supermarket. Eating roadkill is healthier for the consumer than meat laden with antibiotics, hormones, and growth stimulants, as most meat is today.

Does hitting a deer with a car ruin the meat?

Most car hit deer have too much trauma to make good eating. I've cut meat for 40 years and unless one took it to the head only, I won't mess with it. All that blood in the tissue will make it taste gamey. Some get lucky and salvage some....the few I've tried were not worth the time and had little usable meat.

How can you tell if roadkill deer is still good?

In terms of coming across roadkill, signs of freshness include clear eyes, fleas still active on the fur or hide of the animal and general signs of it looking fresh. Rigor mortis sets in quickly, so stiffness of the body does not mean that the animal is not fresh. Use the temperature as a guide.
